CHAKA – Contrary to last week's report in The Mirror, the commissioning of the $940 million Harare- Beitbridge Highway will be done by President Mugabe at Chaka Business Centre instead of Ngundu.
The commissioning will take place on April 12, 2017.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastracture Development, Engineer Michael Madanha confirmed the developments in a telephone interview.
Madanha said he visited the site on Monday together with the president of the Chiefs' Council Fortune Charumbira, Chief Gutu, Chief Serima, Chief Hama, Chief Chirumanzu, Headman Chaka, Mvuma DA Tapson Chivhanga.
He said the project has vast benefits which include employment creation, engagement of local contractors, and ease of doing business and economic growth among many other benefits.
Madanha said the construction of the road will be divided into six segments and 40 percent of the $940m will go to local contractors and service providers for the supply of building materials.
The project is expected to be completed inside three years.
Headman Chaka said it was an honour to have a big function like the ground breaking ceremony of the Harare-Beitbridge-Chirundu dualisation held in his area.
