CHIVI – A woman from Chivi shoved a glowing log onto the lips of her two sons after accusing them of stealing sweet reed (ipwa) from the field. The glowing log caused severe sores on the minors, Chief Magistrate Bishard Chineka was told.
The matter was reported to the Police after teachers at Mangwana Primary School noticed the gruesome injuries to the children.
Primrose Shoko (31) from Mhiti Village under headman Madyangove stunned the court when she conceded that she burnt her two sons' lips for stealing sweet reeds from Maria Robert their grandmother's field.
Shoko was charged with domestic violence for the crime against her sons aged five and seven and was sentenced to 14 months in prison wholly suspended.
On March 19, this year at around 5pm Shoko was at her homestead and called her two sons to interrogate them about the purported theft of sweet reeds from their grandmother's field.
The two denied the accusations which did not go down well with Shoko who withdrew a burning log from the fire place and burnt the two on their upper and lower lips.
The complainants were medically examined and the medical reports were produced as evidence in court.
