CHIVI – A man from Chivi who claimed that he was an agent of Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) and illegally sold stands to two home seekers has been jailed for an effective five years for the crime.
Joel Dzingai (41) from Chivi Growth Point was convicted for fraud by Magistrate Bishad Chineka after he conned Alfred Gwenera (51) of Mbizo, Kwekwe and Loice Gwerena (51) of Nyengerai village under headman Makonese in Chivi of USD$12 000 through the sale of two residential stands.
Dzingai who is a builder then went on to charge the two more money to build houses on the stands.
The stands he sold belonged to the State.
State prosecutor Nathan Zaranyika told the court that on an unknown date but during the month of August 2014, the two complainants approached Dzingai after receiving information that he was selling residential stands at Chivi Growth Point.
Dzingai then showed Alfred and Loice two stands that he called 920 and 119 respectively and was paid a total of $4 000 for the stands.
He then informed the two that he was a professional builder and was awarded a contract to build the duped clients' houses. He was paid $2 800 by Alfred to built a house from footing to slab level while Loice paid the sum of $2 700 for the same job.
Dzingai's lawyers Tafa and Associates have filed Notice and Grounds of Appeal over the sentence.crime news
