CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council has disbanded its security department and retrenched the 10 guards who were employed there.
The process follows the formation of Spanwick Events, a new private security company that is owned by the council.
Speaking during a full council meeting held in the council boardroom last Wednesday Chiredzi RDC Chairman Edward Matsilele said council has managed to retrench 10 workers who were working in the security department.
He said the employees left after a 3 months` notice period, which lapsed on March 31 2017.
He said the retrenched workers will be paid all their terminal benefits.
"The retrenchments will allow council to give work to its newly formed company Spanwick Events which will also provide security services. The retrenched employees are also free to apply for employment at the company," said Matsilele.
Spanwick Events was recently operationalised by council after the appointment of a board of directors which comprises of council chief executive officer and councilors.
