    Chief Nhema assaulted over maintenance


    ZAKA – Chief Nhema born Rangarirai Bwawanda was assaulted at Jerera Growth Point in Zaka on Wednesday after he demanded maintenance from a man who has a child with the chief's sister.
    The son of the man who impregnated the chief's sister came out of a car where he was sitting and head-butted Chief Nhema after he heard him demanding maintenance from his father.
    The incident happened when the three met at Glow Service Station at Jerera.
    Bernard Tinashe Mazodze appeared before Zaka Resident Magistrate Florence Nago facing a charge of assaulting Chief Nhema.
    The state led by Innocent Mudzingwa told the court that on April 12 2017, Chief Nhema met Mazodze`s father at Glow Petroleum Filling station in Jerera. Nhema whose sister was impregnated by Mazodze`s father demanded the upkeep of the child and that did not go well with the son who bolted out of a parked vehicle demanding to know why Nhema was demanding money from his father.
    Mazodze then head butted Nhema and further assaulted him with open hands resulting in a swollen eye.
    Magistrate Nago convicted Mazodze and sentenced him to 10 months imprisonment. Five months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour leaving him with an effective five months jail term.
