CHIREDZI –Three members of the same family from Triangle have appeared in court facing charges of taking turns to rape a 15-year-old relative minor left in their custody.
The State alleges that a knife was used to threaten the girl before she was raped and all the three men used condoms during the act.
Isaac Hove (18), Wilfred Hove (22) and Tichafara Hove (32) of Masimbiti Village appeared before Senior Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu last Friday.
It is the State case that on an unknown date but sometime in June 2016 the juvenile`s grandmother Kudzai Dhliwayo went away to Mberengwa and left the juvenile in the custody of the three accused persons.
The same night that the grandmother left, the juvenile went to sleep alone in her bedroom and the three went to sleep in their usual room. Later in the night Isaac got into the room where the juvenile was sleeping holding a knife and used a cellphone light to find his way. He allegedly threatened to kill the juvenile if she screamed. He took a condom from his bag that was in the room, undressed the juvenile and raped her.
The complainant cried out for help and tried to run away but Wilfred, who was waiting for his turn entered the room and dragged her and forced her to the ground. He also took a condom from the same bag that Isaac took his from and raped the girl. He left the room after the act allegedly paving way for Tichafara who entered the room, took a condom from the same bag, forced the juvenile to the ground and had sexual intercourse with her.
The complainant told her grandmother on her return but she was accused of lying and ordered not to relate the story to anyone. The complainant later told her friends at school but the three accused persons continued to rape the complainant during her granny`s absence and on every occasion the granny would ignore her reports.
The abuse stopped when she went to stay with her stepmother and father whom she told about the abuse. The father advised her to report the matter to her teachers which she did at Chisase Secondary School leading to the arrest of the three.
The three were remanded out of custody and will appear for trial at a date to be set by the court.
