CHIVI - Two Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) officialsand their families in Chivi Ward 11 narrowly escaped rising floods after midnight on Sunday when Tokwe River burst its banks and send water gushing into their homes.
The families lost a lot of their properties.
One of the officials affected by the floods, Morris Masamba confirmed the situation and said both families managed to escape the floods on foot when the water levels were just above the knee level.
The ZINWA officials' homesteads and the water pump that supplies water to Chivi Growth Point are just a few metres away from the river bank.
"I managed to evacuate my family of eight to safety. It was a horrifying experience.
"I left all property in the house including a fridge, a bed, a television set and a welding machine because there was no time to move it and as a result we have suffered a huge loss.
"We lost all the food in the floods and we are left with nothing to feed our families. We are in a dire situation concerning where we are living at the moment.
"Both families are now staying in a shop and there is no privacy because we are living with our children there," said Masamba.
