- Declares self supporters' chairman

NKULUMANI MLAMBO

MASVINGO- The president of Rural Districts Association of Zimbabwe as well as the chairman for Chivi Rural District Council Killer Zivhu has challenged the one year old Mucheke Pirates FC to desist from begging and start income generating projects to fund their operations.
Zivhu said this at the team's fund raising dinner held at Flamboyant Hotel where he was the guest of honour in place of ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa who was in Cairo, Egypt on other football business.
"The Reserve Bank has approved a $15million loan facility for cross border traders and I would like to urge Mucheke Pirates to present a bankable business proposal so that you can start your own projects to run the team.
"Stop this habit of begging and waiting for donations and start your own things which sustain the team, this is a lifetime opportunity so the honours is upon you to take up the challenge," said Zivhu who went on to declare himself the chairman of the supporters and pledged to buy soccer boots for the team on his earliest trip to China.
The Masvingo Mayor Cllr Hubert Fidze pledged the full support of the Council to the team by promising to avail Mucheke Stadium for free for the team's training sessions twice a week.
He also took the opportunity to announce the launch of a junior soccer tournament for Masvingo City schools including Gokomere bankrolled by his office.
Edison Zvobgo (Jnr) of Zvobgo Holdings pledged to provide Mucheke pirates with accommodation for the visiting teams' VIP and urged the team to join Regency Medical Aid scheme to insure against injuries to players.
Zifa Eastern Region veteran administrator Tedius Machawarira urged the team supporters to guard against hooliganism as this has destroyed many promising teams.
He also assured the team that the administration will be fully behind them as long they put their efforts in playing soccer and leave the running of the game to the responsible authorities.
Veteran coach Luke Vahombe Masomere who is arguably the most successful Masvingo Utd gaffer with seven trophies for the busmen pledged to provide technical support to the new team whenever they require it.
He also urged the supporters and the executive not to expect good results where there is no investment put as it is important to keep the team and the technical department well-oiled in order to produce good results.
A number of companies which attended the dinner pledged to rally behind the new team by proving financial support.
Mucheke Pirates was promoted into the Eastern Region Division One League this year after playing for only one year in Division Two and finished the campaign without tasting defeat.
