MWENEZI – The Minister of State for Masvingo, Shuvai Ben Mahofa has said that Government has procured 168 tonnes of fertiliser to be distributed to people of Mewenezi East where there will be a Mwenezi Parliamentary by-election.
She said this at a rally to drum up support for Zanu PF's candidate in the Mwenezi by-election slated for next month.
Vote buying is illegal in Zimbabwean elections and there were others present who said they remained sceptical of the promise until they see the fertiliser. The rally to mobilise support for Joosbi Omar was held at Rutenga Primary school.
"We are here as the province and we have come with a programme to distribute fertiliser to the people in this area. The Government has procured 168 tonnes of fertiliser that is on its way to Zimbabwe," said Mahofa.
She said that farmers should quickly apply the fertiliser to their plants
"Munhu ndewekuti ferliser yake tsveeetsveee madzimai pambesa" she said to a cheering crowd.
She instructed chiefs and traditional leaders to distribute the fertiliser to everyone without any consideration for political affiliation.
"Fertiliser irikuuya nekukasira. Tigonzwa kuti fertiliser haina kusvika kuvanhu vakakodzera. Ipai chero nyoka, madzvinyu vazive kumusha. Kana mukasapa vanhu tichakubvunzai kuti nemhaka yei musina kuvapa. Mupane zvinhu izvi zvakanaka. Ndisosangana nezvichemo zvakawanda kuhofisi kwangu zvenyaya idzodzi," said Mahofa.
Meanwhile Mahofa and Omar made a scathing attack on Bhasikiti accusing him for stealing from the electorate. They did not say what he stole.
