    Gutu college principal jailed for failure to pay salaries

    GUTU - Progressive College principal Sylvester Mavhimira (50) in Gutu has been given a 12-month jail term after he failed to pay five teachers at his school salary backlog amounting to $2 506.
    Mavhimira who resides in Mpandawana, Gutu appeared before Magistrate Edwin Marecha on March 10, 2017 facing charges of failing to settle salary arrears to his members of staff Marian Mahachi who is now employed at Oxford College $457, Lovedell Mangwana $532, Marvellous Mandizvidza $527, Albert Komborero Maramba $550 and Lista Tohochi  $440.
    Mavhima was sentenced to 12 months wholly suspended for five years on condition that he pays the salaries in full. He was also ordered to make an initial payment of $80 to each of the complainants by end of March 2017.
