CHIREDZI – A disabled man who stayed at Jerera Growth Point was last week slapped with a 14-year-jail-term by Chiredzi Senior Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu after he lured an 11-year-old pupil with $1.50 and raped her.
John Ndega known in Jerara as "Wanguda" appeared before Zuyu last week on Tuesday facing rape charges.
The State led by Moreblessing Rusere alleges that sometime last year the 11-year-old girl was collecting firewood on her way to school when Ndega approached her and offered $1.50 so that he can play with her. The girl refused Ndega's money but the accused threw the money at her and tripped her to the ground and raped her.
It was during the act that two women passed through and saw Ndega on top of the girl and they became curios due to the school uniform. He got off when he saw the women and pleaded for forgiveness and the child told the women what had happened. Ndega offered the women payment in form of cash so that they can keep quite. The matter was reported to the Police which led to his arrest.
Magistrate Zuyu condemned abuse of school children and said courts have a duty to pass sentences which will deter would be offenders. crime news
