CHIVI - A man from Chivi could not hold back his anger against his father who had refused to carry out a memorial service for a late sister.
The accused, Lovemore Mutambu (29) of Muteve village, under Headman Makovere in Chief Nemauzhe assaulted the deceased Marwi Mutambu (89) all over the body with a 1,5m long log inflicting severe injuries on the head resulting in the later's death.
The matter was brought before Masvingo High Court judge, Justice Mawadze on February 27, 2017.
The state led by Chikwati heard that on March 26, 2017, the accused who is a confirmed mental patient had an altercation over the memorial service.
The deceased was rushed to Berejena Clinic where he was referred to Matibi Hospital. He died the following day.
Accused was arrested and jailed.
A post mortem report submitted by Dr Calvin Maimba indicated that severe head injuries caused the death of Marwi.
The accused was acquitted of murder charges through a special verdict that he committed the offence when his mental state was not stable.
However he has to undergo further examinations at Chikurubi Psychatric Unit to determine whether he is fit to rejoin the society.crime news
