9 Buhera families desert homes as robber unleashes terror

BUHERA - A suspected robber has been terrorizing families in the Madzivire area under Chief Nyashanu where he has assaulted women, destroyed window panes, burnt down huts and nine families have since fled their homes and are living in nearby forests.
There was an attempted rape on a woman from the area and villagers suspect the same person.
Councilor Damson Makichi of ward 15 in Madzivire confirmed the developments and said that the robber has become a big headache to the villagers.
He appealed to the Police to make a quick intervention.
The destroyed houses are mainly in four villages; Chiparo, Mupamhanga, Mudinzva and Mativenyika.
He said one woman was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital after an attack.
"It is not clear whether the person doing this is just one individual or it's a gang. Some families have deserted their homesteads and are living in the bushes or staying with relatives. We have reported the matter to the Chief and the Police and investigations are in progress," said Makichi.
One of the residents in Chiparo Village, Dennis Mlambo said that four of his wives' houses were destroyed on January 26 and two thatched kitchens were detroyed.
Other residents of Madzivire area also said that the robber also attempted to rape a woman last week at night and ran away after he was struck with a stick by the woman's child.
