MVUMA - Twenty five councillors from Chirumanzu Rural District Council (RDC) have each received a motor cycle and the total value is $39 000.
The procurement of the cycles was financed through earnings from the council's maize project at Msena.
The motorcycles were handed over at a ceremony where Minister of Rural Development, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture and Heritage.
Abedinico Ncube was the guest of honour at the RDC offices on Monday.
The Minister commented council for supporting councillors with tools that could enhance their work.
"Chirumanzu RDC has done a good thing to buy 25 cycles for councillors and one for the building inspector Maplan Chisora. I can see you are the fifth out of 92 councils in the country to do this," said Ncube.
The MP for Chirumanzu Zibagwe Constituency, Auxillia Mnangagwa was also present. She urged councillors to put the motor cycles to good use.
Chirumanzu Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lovemore Chatikobo said that the council is working together with communities in various wards to achieve development.
"The motor bikes will go a long way in enhancing the councillors' effectiveness in projects implementation.
"We are working together with Hon Mnangagwa to roof one of our markets.
"She contributed towards the purchase of roofing materials. Hon Munanzvi is contributing towards the construction of a clinic in ward 23," said Chatikobo.
