ZVISHAVANE – Prominent Zvishavane businessman Eddie Khan is battling for life at Matterday Hospital in Bulawayo after robbers who went away with an undisclosed amount of cash from his Galijo Service Station in Mandava fired and shot him twice in the chest on Wednesday last week.
Members of the public deplored Police details who arrived at the scene almost an hour later although the a Police station is 200m away.
Midlands Police Spokesperson inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident.
"We received the report and Police are doing their best to account for the robbers. We ask anyone with information to give it to the Police," he said.
One of the fuel attendants Prosper Siziba who witnessed the incident said he was holding a bag containing cash from fuel sales when two men attacked him and tried to snatch the bag while a third accomplice was hiding in the dark with a fire arm.
"It was around 8pm when two men appeared from the dark pretending to be customers. They suddenly instructed me to give them cash but I refused and they started assaulting while me while pulling me into the dark.
"Mr Khan who was preparing to knock off heard the noise and when he came out to my rescue the third accomplice fired three times and shot him in the ribs," said Sibanda.
Sibanda said the robbers managed to take the bag and all the cash that was in his pocket and ran away.
Eyewitnesses blasted the Police for taking more than an hour to attend to the scene yet the charge office is less than 200 meters from Galijo Service Station.
Last month another service station Compile that is along Masvingo-Zvishavane was robbed by armed men.
