SHURUGWI – The abuse of underage girls in the name of religion continue to overwhelm the courts with a Shurugwi mother now appearing in court for having taken her daughter to a self-styled prophet and stood guard at the door while the former was intimate with the minor.
The mother was using the girl to thank the prophet for the spiritual work he had done on her.
It is alleged the minor's mother took her daughter for marriage to a Madzibaba Jefias Nyika.
She sat by the door as the prophet broke her form three daughter's virginity and the sitting by the door was to ensure that the minor does not run away, according to court papers.
It is alleged that Chigweshe was so happy with the service that she got from Madzibaba Jefias that the two agreed that as payment, Jefias would take the minor's hand in marriage.
The State alleges that on January 12, 2016 at around 10pm Chigweshe took her daughter to Jefias's house after she had talked her into marrying the prophet.
The two were received at the homestead and at around midnight Madzibaba allegedly had sex with the minor while the mother was by the door to ensure that nothing went wrong with her plan. The following morning the minor's grandmother (maternal) heard the story and reported the matter to Police, leading to the arrest of the two.
The mother is being charged with pledging a female person as defined in Section 94(1)(6) of the Criminal Law and Codification Act while the prophet has his separate docket charging him with contravening the same section Chapter 9:23, having sexual intercourse with a minor.
