ZVISHAVANE - A cashier at Pote Supermarket was on Friday arrested for allegedly defrauding her employer of $14 145,74 by overstating POS machine balances and then collected cash difference from early January until the day of her arrest.
Rumbidzai Gundani's fraud case is understood to be now before the courts.
The allegations are that on February 10, at around 6pm, Gundani's immediate supervisor Fransisca Mhuru returned from maternity leave and discovered that $650 was missing from the recorded POS machine records and cash records.
She alerted her immediate boss Mr Tamson Mtombeni who then reported the matter to the Police.
Two female police officers were asked to go and search Gundani's residential place in Mandava that night. It is understood that the search team managed to recover $9 045 from the house.
Pote management then instructed their accountant Ezekiel Masengwe to audit the books and discovered that $14 145,74 could have been lost to the scam.
Gundani is being represented by Mutendi, Shumba, Mudisi and partners legal practitioners and the matter is expected back in court on the February 26, 2017.
