NKULUMANI MLAMBO

MASVINGO – A man from Mucheke High Density Suburb in Masvingo has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a regular intruder into his homestead with a bolt fired from a catapult.
Venancio Maovere (31) was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly pulled the catapult at Odwell Mudisi (46) who had come into his yard in Target Kopje Extension and was peeping into the house through a window.
Sources said that this was the third time that Mudisi had been spotted at night in the yard.
A report made at Chikato Police under RRB 2808539 says Maovere fired the bolt from inside his house and hit the deceased at close range. Allegations are that the deceased fell to the ground and the accused picked a log and went on to hit the Mudisi with it all over the body.
The deceased later escaped to his house in the same neighbourhood and was taken to Masvingo General Hospital and later transferred to Harare where he died on admission.
Masvingo Police spokesman Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the case but said he was still gathering more facts.
Mudisi is going to be buried at in Bikita.
Masvingo has currently seen an upsurge in thefts and armed robberies that have left many people seriously injured and it is by luck that there are no deaths so far. The highest spate of thefts in the homes is probably by fuel thieves who drain the precious liquid from motor vehicles and Police have failed to reign them for many years although points where illegal fuel dealers are well known.
Police in Masvingo run car parks where residents pay a dollar a night for the safe keep of their cars.
