MANYENE – A woman from Mhuru Village in Manyene, Chikomba District who is suspected of having concealed the pregnancy of her daughter who was doing Form Four at Zimondi Secondary is in trouble as there is suspicion that she killed the newly-born baby using rat poison and concealed the body.
Ward 5 Councilor for Chikomba, Joseph Muguti said he heard about the story but had no details. He, however, confirmed that the girl did not sit for her exams and had not been coming to school since the end of last year.
Efforts to get comment from Zimondi Secondary head Ella Manyanyi were fruitless as her phone went unanswered up to the time of going to Press.
Mashonaland East Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector could not be reached for comment.
Neighbors said the student stopped attending school last year third term when she fell pregnant and started falling ill but did not inform anyone at school. They added that the mother was barring teachers from visiting the girl during her illness.
The student who was supported by CAMFED had registered for 'O' level exams and failed to sit for the exams due to her condition.
"The student stopped attending school third term last year when she fell pregnant and there was a time when members of staff from her school were barred from visiting their house to see the student," said some of their neighbors.
Neighbours said the mother claimed that the child had a miscarriage when some of them went to see the newly born baby.
