BIKITA – Bikita Magistrate Caroline Tafira has cancelled former Bikita Rural District Council (RDC) Chief Executive Officer, Johnson Bigger Mpamhadzi's (66) driver's licence after he caused the deaths of two minors in a road accident in April 2016.
Mpamhadzi was found guilty of culpable homicide in that he drove negligently and bumped into three minors and resulting in the death of two of them.
Cancelling the licence, Magistrate Tafira concurred with the State that Mpamhadzi was speeding and failed to exercise high degree of care when he saw children on the road. She also ordered the accused to pay a fine of $400 and said that the sentence was lenient because she had taken into consideration that Mpamhadzi is an elderly man.
Mpamhadzi paid $300 towards the fine and has to pay the remainder by February 28 2017.
It was the State case that Mpamhadzi caused death of 2 children after he negligently drove his Toyota Hilux No ADF 0092 at the 212 km peg along Mutare-Masvingo road in April 2016.
Mpamhadzi approached 3 children with one of them crossing to the right side of the road where 2 of his friends were.
Upon approaching the 3 children Mpamhadzi lost control of the vehicle which hit them and they fell to the ground.
Two of the children, Ronald Munyeperi died on the spot and Liliosa Chikozho was pronounced dead on arrival at Nyika clinic.
Out of remorse, Mpamhadzi paid 14 cattle to the families of the deceased and he also bought the coffins.
