CHIREDZI – Zanu PF factional fights can never get worse than this when a sitting Minister of State told the electorate never to vote any of the party's current sitting MPs.
Addressing an inter-district meeting which was mainly attended by those aligned to a faction which goes by the name Lacoste at Chiredzi Town Council offices last Saturday, Mahofa urged chairpersons of party districts not to vote for all incumbent MPs for Chiredzi allegedly because they cannot be trusted.
She accused the MPs' Rtd General Kalisto Gwanetsa, Darlington Chiwa and Robert Mukwena of advocating for the reversal of the land reform. Mahofa is probably bitter because her attempt to have Zanu PF cronies allocated land which is part of Tongaat's current sugarcane fields hit a brick wall.
Chiredzi North MP Mukwena and Chiwa of Chiredzi West hit back and described Mahofa as a mad woman who did not know what the electorate wants since she was not voted into power in 2013.
"I want to tell you all who are here, you should not repeat the mistake you did in 2013 of voting these four people to become your MPs in 2018. Please make sure that you vote all of them out and you can see it for yourself that they are currently not at this meeting and we have other leaders who are here whom you should elect in 2018. You cannot elect people who are working against you," said Mahofa.
The two MPs said they did not attend the meeting because it was factional and added that they were not invited to the meeting in the first place.
"Those are words which came from someone who is crazy, a person who gained office through the votes of legislators who were voted in directly. Mahofa has a history of electoral defeats in Gutu South. We were elected by people and we are doing what our people tell us to do and who is Mahofa regarding this matter?" asked Chiwa.
"That woman is insane and those words came out because she wanted to impress a factional meeting which she was addressing. We were not invited to the meeting and how did she expect us to attend? Asked Mukwena.
