CHIKOMBA – In yet another armed robbery, a farm worker residing at Belvour Plot just outside Chivhu along Chivhu Mvuma Road was killed in cold blood and his wife severely injured when robbers visited the couple's home on Sunday night, assaulted the two before escaping with a $700 and a cellphone.
Police spokesperson for Mash East Ass Inspector Tendai Mwanza could not comment by the time of going to Press.
James Katemanyengwa was assaulted together with his wife Abigail Muchena by three unknown assailants at around 1am.
Muchena who survived the attack and is admitted at Chivhu General hospital confirmed the incident including the tragic death of her husband.
Matemanyengwa and his wife were employed and staying at Denford Gotosa's plot who is a driver for Urban Connect Buses. Muchena said the three robbers knocked at their bedroom asking for a road that leads to Garira Plot and Katemanyengwa peeped through the door to check who it was and opened the door.
They dragged him outside as he opened the door and started assaulting him with fists all over the body, stabbing him with a screwdriver and a knife and hit him with a hoe handle and a rod.
The robbers escaped with $700 and a mobile phone.
Although the pair screamed for assistance there was no help from the neighbours.
They were ferried to Chivhu General Hospital at around 4 am and the husband passed on at around 6am.
