CHIREDZI – A 64-year-old man from Jekiseni Village under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi will spend the next 13 years in jail after Magistrate Judith Zuyu incarcerated him for raping a 12-year-old girl.
Giving sentence to Isaac Masakadze last week, Magistrate Zuyu said it was the duty of courts to protect minors by giving such offenders lengthy and deterrent sentences.
It is the State case that on June 29, 2016 at around 5pm the juvenile who is in grade 4 at a local school (name supplied) was sent by her mother to Masakadze's homestead to collect a cellphone which was left charging. Upon arrival at the homestead she sat at the verandah since Masakadze was in his bedroom. Masakadze ordered the juvenile to get inside and collect the cellphone but she refused. He came outside and dragged her into his bedroom, shut her mouth with his hand to stop her from screaming and fondled her breasts and private parts before removing her clothes.
The court also heard that after removing her clothes Masakadza forced her to bend down and raped her. He threatened her with unspecified action if she report the matter to anyone.
The matter came to light after she suffered from stomach pains to which she divulged to her mother what had happened earlier the same day.
