GWERU – Newly appointed Chapungu FC coach, Tendai Chikuni is gunning for a top three finish with his new club in the 2017 Premier League campaign.
"My main aim is to end the season in the top three and may be talk about the title the following season," said the reigning Central Region Coach of the Year who guided Shabani FC into the top flight league in 2016.
Chapungu finished the season on 13th position with 32 points from 30 games.
Chikuni has already started training in preparation for the crunch 2017 season where he will face his former paymasters, Shabani FC and FC Platinum all based in the mining town of Zvishavane.
He signed a 3 year contract with the skymen.
Chikuni was born in Mutare where he did his primary and secondary education.
After completing his 'O' Levels he joined Trust Bank FC who were playing in the Bankers League in Mutare where his career abruptly ended after sustaining a knee injury.
He joined the technical department as the team manager and began taking coaching courses up to Level Four certificate and CAF C License.
"After attaining my coaching badges l moved to Malawi and joined Telecom Wanderers as an assistant to Rahman Gumbo. I also coached in Botswana at Township Rollers in the same capacity up until 2011 when l came back at FC Platinum under Gumbo again.
"In 2014 when Gumbo left I was appointed the caretaker coach at the same time l was also the development coach for Guinea Fowl soccer team," said Chikuni.
In 2015 he enrolled for Diploma in Sports Management at Cape Town University and later came back to join Shabani FC.sport news
