CHIVHU - Chikomba RDC has closed the main Harare bus pick-up point in the town centre and the chief executive officer, Luckson Mutara says plans are underway to build a big main bus rank close to Di Rozvi Complex.
Di Rozvi Complex is about 500 metres from the town center.
However, the closure of the pick-up-point is barely being complied with by bus drivers and motorists as they still stop and pick up passengers from there despite the wooden barricade. This has caused congestion at the point which is in front of Pick 'n' Pay as motorists now stop in the middle of the road.
Mutara said the pick-up point is undesignated and therefore illegal.
Mutara said in the mean time that there are designated pick and drop off points with wide space at the Buhera Bus Stop and at Chicken Inn which buses and other traffic should use.
Some companies have since been approached with offers for the construction work.
"The Pick 'n' Pay Bus Stop is an undesignated pick-up and drop off point that was created by motorists. Travelers should either use the Buhera Bus Stop or Chicken Inn which are the proper designated points. We are doing this to avoid disaster in the form of accidents and also to maintain cleanliness in town.
"We are working towards constructing a proper bus terminus with wide space close to Di Rozvi complex," said Mutara.
