CHIREDZI – Chiredzi residents are not happy about the closure of Chigarapasi Beer Hall, the biggest beer garden in Chiredzi and the whole country and have called upon the local authority to reverse the move.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) Chairperson Jonathan Muusha Mupamombe said residents will take council head on with a view to have them reverse the decision to close the country`s biggest beer hall.
He said council was supposed to have consulted residents before closing the bar.
"As residents of Chiredzi we are not happy with the decision which was taken by council to close Chigarapasi Bar which used to benefit a lot of people in the town. They should have consulted residents through public hearings. This used to be a cash cow for our council and it is our belief that with good management the bar would still perform well. We are engaging council on this matter and we are calling for public hearings so that residents express their views on what should be done with this bar rather than renting it out," said Mupamombe.
Town Secretary Charles Muchatukwa confirmed that residents are resisting the closure of the bar but said his hands were tied since the directive came from the ministry.
The closure of the bar which is home to hundreds of sex workers has created unemployment to the ladies of the night.local news
