GWERU-Table champion Patience Pasipamire from Masvingo pulled a surprise by coming out second best in the women category at Delta sponsored Carling Black Label pool tournament held at Barns Sports Club in Gweru last Saturday.
This was her first time the Mucheke based player to reach the finals and for her efforts she pocketed $600 while Charity Ncube of Kadoma received $1000 for being the champion. Tendai Chihota was third best and got $200.
"I am also happy for coming out 2nd best since it is my first time to participate in the tournament. The final round was so challenging to me since I was outclassed in the first frame," said an elated Pasipamire.
Speaking to The Mirror Ncube said she was shocked and could not believe that she was the 2016 CBL national champion.
"Its unexplainable and I cannot put it into words. But I am so happy to be the winner of this prestigious tournament," said Ncube who has been playing pool for six years and this was her first time as well at the finals.
She also thanked Delta Beverages for its overwhelming support through sponsoring the tournament.
Last year`s ladies champion Shamiso Musiiwa from Mutare failed to defend her title this year as she was defeated in the first group stages.
In male division, Blessing Chatoma from Chitungwiza clinched the title and walked away $1000 richer after he defeated last year`s champion Hillary Makamuri 2-0 in the final round.
Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda congratulated the winners of this year`s tournament and the supporters who turned up for an impressive tournament.
"I am very excited about the winners and if you noticed the areas where the winners originate from, this exclusively show how widespread pool has become in the country. This is what Carling Black Label stands for," said Murambinda.
She also said this year`s tournament was a major success considering the fact that Delta managed to increase the number of regions from 10 to18.
