CHIREDZI – Farmers who were allocated sugarcane plots in Tongaat Hulett Estates have started receiving notices of intention to withdraw offer letters from the Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement Douglas Mombeshora.
The Minister said he was withdrawing the offer letters because there was re-planning.
The farmers are collecting the notices from Chiredzi District Lands Offices. After collecting their letters they met on Saturday and agreed to pay $25 each so that they could hire a lawyer and fight Government.
The letters are dated November 1, 2016 and they give the farmers 7 days from receipt to make any representations towards the matter.
"We will react to each situation as it comes but for now we will respond to the Minister`s notice of withdrawal," said Abraham Mataleni Sithole who is the Chairperson of the farmers.
Most of the beneficiaries on this list are the same people who once took Government to court after they were withdrawn from Save Valley Conservancy. Sithole is one of them as well as former MP Ailes Baloyi who got a sugarcane field in Triangle after dumping another one in Mkwasine. Outgoing Chiredzi District Administrator Clara Muzenda who turned down an opportunity to be Acting Provincial Administrator and is now delaying going to assume duty in Chimanimani was another beneficiary despite having another irrigated field in Kwekwe.
