    Chiredzi RDC unveils $3,2m 2017 budget

    CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council has reduced tariffs and charges in a bid to increase revenue collection according to a $3 227 954 budget for 2017 approved by councilors last Thursday.
    Addressing a Budget Full Council Meeting last Thursday Finance Committee Chairperson Murawu Munyengeri said the bulk of the money is expected to be funded by residents and the business community with fees and levies expected to contribute 40,44% while developed stands will chip in with 35,58%. He also said council is expecting to get other revenue from unit tax, property rentals, supplementary charges and penalties. 
    General expenses will chew up 57,14% of the budget while employee costs will pick up 23,75%;  repairs 0,93%; maintenance 3,25% and capital expenditure 15,83%.
    "During the 2017 Financial Year, we anticipate our domestic cash budget to be $3 227 954. Mr chairman your council has reduced tariffs and charges to acceptable and sustainable levels in a bid to have maximum collection. Residents and business community will fund the budget. Unit tax will contribute 10.41% and property rental 14,56%; supplementary charges 0.93% and penalties 0.08%
    "2017 expenditure will be centred on environment and climate change, institutional capacity and strengthening governance issues in trying to address current operational challenges. The proportionate expenditure lines will be as follows, employee costs 23,75%, general expenses 57.14%, repairs 0.93%, maintenance 3.25% and capital expenditure 15.83%. We will undertake construction of staff houses, administration offices, classroom blocks, dam scooping, borehole drilling and rehabilitation, motorized grading and construction, dip tanks construction and capitalization of irrigation schemes at a total cost of $1 417 883" said Munyengeri.
    Chiredzi RDC is the rural council with a budget which performed better than any other council in Masvingo province during the 2016 financial year. Of the budgeted $4 058 807 they have so far collected $2 535 246 from its domestic revenue sources for the period 1 January 2016 to 30 October 2016. The collected revenue translates to 62,46% of the whole budget.
