CHIREDZI – The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) has released a special grant of $200 000 to Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) to be used for the rehabilitation of the Chiredzi - Hippo Valley Road.
Chiredzi RDC chief executive officer Isaac Matsilele confirmed the development and said work to rehabilitate the road is now in progress after Zinara released the money. He said the rural council is responsible for the tender process and Zinara will pay the money direct to the contractor who is now on the ground doing work.
He said council will continue rehabilitating the road until it reaches Hippo valley Primary School and the current work will end at Hippo Valley Sugar Mills.
"We received $200 000 from Zinara for the rehabilitation of Chiredzi – Hippo Valley Road. It was a long overdue project but work is now in progress, we engaged a contractor through a tender process. The contractor is now doing work to rehabilitate the road which is tarring it from the railway line to where sugar mills are in Hippo Valley. That's our road as council and with availability of funds we will rehabilitate it to Hippo Valley Primary School. This is a special grant in which Zinara is paying direct to the contractor and nothing will come into the hands of council," said Matsilele.
