ZVISHAVANE - The Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development and Zvishavane-Runde MP, Fred Moyo is set to donate 106 computers and 3 000 text books to rural schools in the district.
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Moyo said it was important for legislators to assist children in rural communities through giving them adequate learning resources. He said 106 computers have arrived in the country from China and three schools under Chief Masunda area (Sasula Primary, Chachitsa Secondary and Mabasa Secondary) will benefit from the program while other schools are to receive 3 000 text books.
"We want to develop Information and Communication Technology in rural communities, so for a start I will donate 40 computers to Sasula Primary then Chachitsa and Mabasa Secondary will receive 33 computers each," said Moyo.
He said the 3 000 text books are still in Australia and will be brought after Zimra clearance process.
Zvishavane District Schools Inspector Tranos Malhokozela said the initiative will go a long way to enhance better education in the district.
"The program will enhance the education of our children. The text books are to promote early reading initiative which is the key to child learning and rural schools have always trailed due to the unavailability of text books. So the donation will go a long way in child education and with regard to ICT its now a prerequisite by the Government that all schools should have e-learning so these computers will surely have a positive impact," said the DEO.
    Chief Masunda applauded the initiative.education
