BUHERA - A man from Gweru has approached the Magistrate Court at Murambinda seeking $250 maintenance from his wife who is a teacher at Chiturike Primary School in Buhera.
Philemon Tapfuma has retired from Bata Shoe Company on medical grounds and sought $200 for medication and $50 for food from his wife Noreen Mupatsi every month.
Tapfuma argued that he sent his wife to school until she became a teacher but she was now neglecting him. He threatened to commit suicide unless his wife bails him out of the situation. The nature of Tapfuma's illness is not disclosed in court papers. He claims that he was being given one meal a day by the wife when his medication demands that he has three decent meals.
Mupatsi however, told Magistrate Henry Sande that she was prepared to maintain her husband but $250 was too much and she offered $50.
"I can maintain him but the amount is too much, I am offering $50 that will cover his medication," said the wife.
In passing judgement magistrate Sande ordered Mupatsi to pay $120 per month being maintanance for Tapfuma with effect from November 31.
