ZVISHAVANE - Gwanda based Central Region Division One outfit Blanket Mine FC blew away a huge opportunity for a maiden Premiership appearance when it was held to a 1 all draw by Nichrut.
The two points dropped widened the gap between Blanket Mine and log leaders Shabani FC to six points after Chinda boys walloped Gweru United 2-0.
With only two games remaining, Blanket Mine's chances lye by a thread as they have to win all remaining games with huge score lines while Shabani loses all which is most unlikely considering Chinda Boys' current form.
Shabani FC are on pole with 63 points and Blanket Mine now sit on third position with 57 points. Ivan Hoe FC managed to climb the ladder to second position with 58 points after clobbering Jessie Mine 1-0 and pose a probable threat to gain the sole Premiership slot if they win their remaining fixtures with the hope that Shabani falters.
Blanket Mine FC assistant coach James Phiri blasted his troops for losing focus in their last two matches where they dropped five crucial points– losing to Ivan Hoe last week and last weekend's draw.
"It is so painful. Very painful. The boys lost focus completely in the last two fixtures, losing to Ivan Hoe and a draw while our rival team Shabani capitalized by collecting maximum points in all fixtures.
"We just urge our fans to sympathize with us and I believe this is learning curve," said Phiri.
Blanket Mine was going to be the first team from Gwanda to play in the Premiership but that dream been put in limbo as the they have left it to other teams to do them a favour by beating their title rivals.
Meanwhile, cash strapped ZIFA has made a u-turn on playoffs and four teams are going to be relegated from the top flight league. The sudden change means winners of all the four Division One leagues will automatically gain promotion into the top flight league. sport news
