Perm Sec sends team to inspect Good Hope junior

    CHIVHU BUREAU

    CHIKOMBA -
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Sylivia Utete Masango has sent a senior official to inspect Good Hope Junior School in Chivhu which is at the center of an ownership wrangle between council and some private players.
The move by Masango follows an instruction by the Provincial Education Director Christopher Chihota to the school authorities to have the school closed by December because of various requirements that are said to be substandard.
The team comprised the Ministry's acting director of planning, research and statistics Chinyowa and a representative in the Human Resources department Nyikato.
The parents have appealed to the Permanent Secretary to reverse the directive.
The letter received from the PED said the place was not suitable for a school.
The newly appointed Chikomba District Schools' Inspector Emmanuel Kwenda also accompanied the two officials for the inspections.
"I confirm that members from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education came last week to inspect the school and their observations went well. The only concern was the issue of land which

Tsoka said they are waiting for an outcome from the Ministry pertaining the inspections they carried out.
Tsoka said from the inspections they carried out, the observations were positive but the only concern is the issue of land which is said to have been repossessed by the local authority. He said the issue is a court issue which will be determined by the courts.
Efforts to get a comment from Chinyowa were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered. The school had recently received a directive from the PED Christopher Chihota to have it closed by December 31, this year. After receiving the letter, parents with pupils learning at the school wrote a petition to Masango some two weeks back to intervene and stop a directive to close the school arguing that the school was the best grade seven school in Chikomba.
They also argued that pupils were going to be psychologically affected and this would have an impact on their performance if they are to be transferred to other school as was suggested in the letter of the closure of the school.
There are also fears that the closure of the schools will put pressure on Northwood, Chivhu Primary and Runyararo Primary where the pupils will have to find places.education news
