    Govt transfers 70 DEOs

    •    District Schools' Inspector post created

    NKULUMANI MLAMBO

MASVINGO – The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has created a new post of District Schools' Inspector (DSI) and promoted all  District Education Officers to that level before transferring them .
A total of 72 DEOs' have been transferred.
The changes are said to be aimed at creating efficiency and innovation through new ideas. All DEOs throughout the country have been transferred with immediate effect after their old post of DEO abolished.
The Provincial Education Director, Zedius Chitiga confirmed the development in a telephone interview with The Mirror this week.
The new DSI position is at the same level as that of a deputy director although the DSIs' will be performing the same duties as before.
"In addition all of them have been moved to other stations in the province except one. This has been done to enhance efficiency and innovativeness because if one is promoted and remain at the same station there is not much motivation but if one is transferred chances are that they will implement new ideas and systems," said the veteran educationist.
DSIs will be involved in the inspection of schools and quality control.
An induction course for all the DSIs' was held at a Harare hotel last week.
The minister of Primary and Secondary Education Lazarous Dokora reiterated what Chitiga had said and added that the transfers were countrywide.
Zakaria Makopa has been transferred from Masvingo district go and head Bikita district replacing the late Jenjezwa who had been reassigned to Zaka, Sylvester Teererai is moving from Gutu to Chivi while Felix Chigaba from Mwenezi is heading to Masvingo district.
There will be a new face in the province as Luckson Zanamwe from Gwanda, Matebeleland Province will be transferred to Mwenezi and Petronella Nyangwe from Chegutu Mashonaland West province to Chiredzi.
