Bikita Minerals in support of STEM

    BIKITA REPORTER

    BIKITA -
Bikita Minerals Private Limited has donated 300 books to Bikita Fashu High School.
The books which are for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at 'A' level came at the right time as the school has plans to introduce science subjects beginning next year.
Bikita Minerals Chief executive Officer Grant Hundson made the presentation two weeks ago.
He said his organisation is working hard to give back to the community.
He said the gesture of donating books was meant to benefit the community and they want to make Bikita Fashu into one of the most important schools despite being based in the rural.
"We have done this for the community. We felt that it is good to donate books so that even future generations will remember us as people with love for progress. There is nothing better you can do to a nation than educating its citizens," said Hundson.
Chioniso Maradza, the deputy district schools' inspector was the guest of honor.
She thanked Bikita Minerals for the noble gesture. She said that the Ministry is grateful to Bikita Minerals for donating science subjects textbooks and hence supporting the government's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative.
"I would like to thank Bikita Minerals for such a kind gesture. STEM subjects are becoming much of a priority nowadays. It painful to think that it is only the students who are in well-to do boarding schools and those who live in towns who can benefit from STEM. I would like to congratulate Bikita Fashu for affording us this rare chance," said Maradza.
She also gave a brief history of the STEM initiative where she said the creators of STEM had a mission of producing a hybrid student who can fit in today's world having the necessary skills that make them employable.
The donation came at a time when Bikita Minerals is also renovating Fashu's science laboratory so that the school can begin offering science subjects next year. It will be one of the first to do so in a district where only three boarding schools in the district Pamushana, Mashoko and Silveira missions offer science subjects.education news
