    – Three members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police were captured and disarmed near Sango Border Post at the border of Zimbabwe and Mozambique last week, The Mirror has been told.
It is feared that the incident could create a diplomatic tiff between the two countries after the officers were returned to Zimbabwe without their guns, identity particulars and handcuffs.
Efforts to get a comment from the Police were fruitless but reliable sources said the incident happened one kilometre away from Mwenezi River in Chiredzi and two kilometres from a Mozambican Police base inside Mozambique.
Sources said on June 11, 2016 at around 2:30pm, Assistant Inspector Sibanda, Constable Nyamukaiwa and Constable Mjele who are members of a 14-member Support Unit team deployed to patrol Sango Border Post were on patrol along the border in the western side of border Post.
Sibanda was armed with a pistol while Nyamukaiwa and Mjele had AK47 rifles all fully loaded. The three were ambushed two kilometres from Mwenezi River, the border line of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The sources said there is no physical feature at that point which defines the Zimbabwean side and the Mozambican side and the site of the ambush was one kilometre away from the base of Mozambican police.
They were suddenly surrounded by heavily armed Mozambican Police officers and accused of encroaching into their territory.
They were asked to surrender their firearms, identity particulars and handcuffs and before they were taken to Chicualacuala district Police office where they were detained for more than four hours and later released without their particulars or firearms.
Sources said efforts to secure back the confiscated itrems by the Mozambican police are in progress.
