PROGRESS SIBANDA

MASVINGO
- Human Rights activist Prosper Tiringindi  (28) has been charged with inciting members of the public to engage in public violence following  the burning of tyres in Masvingo during the July 6, 2016 mass stay away.
The tyres were burnt in Mucheke High Density Suburb.
Tiringindi appeared before Masvingo Provincial Magistrate Langton Ndokera facing charges of disorderly conduct in public place.
Tiringindi who is being represented by Phillip Shumba of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights denied the allegations and said he was actually in Harare on the day.
"I never uttered the words being attributed to me. After all the allegations are a blatant infringement of my constitutionally enshrined rights," said Tiringindi in his defence.
Magistrate Ndokera postponed the case to tomorrow (Friday 22 July 2016) on free bail after State Prosecutor Nancy Makuvise had called for a bail of $50. It is alleged that on July 6, 2016 at around 330pm and along Zimuto Street between Rashai Foroma Bar and Tsungai shop Mucheke A, Tiringindi   behaved and used threatening, abusive and insulting words in the public.
Tiringindi is said to have been in a white single cab in which there were five other unknown accused persons who are still at large. The motor vehicle was moving about the street with the accused occupying the front seat.
It is alleged that on the back were four accused person's accomplice who were lighting and throwing tyres along the road while Tiringindi was shouting with a loud hailer saying Government should give people two million jobs and Police officers should not to beat or harass people who were on stay away.
The court heard that the police officers on patrol observed what was happening and approached the motor vehicle in which Tiringindi was in and the car went off at high speed leaving about eight tyres on road.
