CHIVHU
– Netone which recently took an upswing in its growth has opened a shop in the transit town of Chivhu.
The shop which is in Cloete Street was opened during a colourful function on Friday last week.
The shop will be selling numerous products which include cellphones, mobile lines, airtime and solar lateens. The organisation also did a road show where customers received promotional materials such as T-shirts.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce who is also the Member of Parliament for Chikomba West constituency Mike Bimha graced the occasion. He gave words of encouragement to both the Netone family and their customers.
He urged the community to embrace Netone, highlighting that it's a people's network, owned by the people of Zimbabwe and serving their interests without being greatly influenced by a capitalistic motive.
Bimha applauded Netone for opening a shop in Chivhu. He said the organization was the first mobile provider to be established in the country but had somehow fell short of getting closer to their market.
"Now that they are visible and closer to their market they can easily get comments and feedback from the same customers with regards to their products," he said.
John Nyashanu, the Netone Public Relations officer said the organization has a drive to aggressively expand in the country. Nyashanu said the organization is taking the market by storm where their subscriber base grew from 2.5 million in 2014 to 4,2 million last year. He said their target is to hit the 8 million mark by the end of next year.
Nyashanu said President Robert Mugabe facilitated a loan of $218 million from China for the expansion project.
He said that all these efforts that they are making like opening shops are aimed at ensuring that their target is realised.
Apart from Netone staff in Chivhu, there are other downstream beneficiaries of the project which include airtime vendors amongst others.
