Controversy as Muzoroza is appointed lands commissioner

    – Tedious Muzoroza, a lawyer who was recently involved in the controversial take-over of 244 hectares of land already incorporated in the City of Masvingo has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the Land Commission announced by President Robert Mugabe recently.
Analysts said there is conflict of interest for someone who has immensely benefitted from the land reform programme to sit on a commission that is supposed to audit the same land beneficiaries.
One of the key functions of the Land Commission is to audit the land reform programme embarked on by Government in 2 000 with a particular mandate to pluck out multiple-land owners.
Muzoroza fought fierce running battles in the courts with co-operatives that had gotten residential stands on the land Plot A of Victoria Range where he later got an offer letter. According to court documents the same land that Muzoroza got under Minister Douglas Mombeshora had already been given to Masvingo City Council for urban expansion and the construction of new sewerage.
Mahofa who felt that the allocation was too big however, reversed the land allocation to Muzoroza as soon as she came into office as Minister of State for Masvingo and redistributed it to six companies including Muzoroza.
The 244 hectares that Muzoroza got was enough for 5 500 high density residential stands but the Minister of State for Masvingo Province Senator Shuvai Mahofa reversed the offer after The Mirror broke the story in August last year.
Dr Mombeshora allocated the land to Muzoroza to use it for agricultural purposes although the same land was already planned for urban expansion. There are allegations that Muzoroza is a friend to Mombeshora
When asked for comment, Dr Mombeshora said, " I do not comment on presidential appointments because for the President to appoint a person he/she would have gone thorough vetting and met all the requirements".
Muzoroza said, " I cannot comment because I have not been given the appointment letter and I also read the news in the press".Top story news
