    Chitambo demands transparency at NSSA

    – The president of the Zimbabwe Energy Workers' Union (Zewu), Angeline Chitambo has called for transparency in the running of the National Social Security Authority which she said was badly governed.
Speaking at a May Day function organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare at Rufaro Stadium on Monday, Chitambo told Minister Prisca Mupfumira who was accompanied to the event by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa that the state of the welfare of workers in Zimbabwe was appalling and Government needed to urgently work on a number of factors to correct the situation.
She summarised the mass dismissals of workers in the aftermath of the Chidyausiku ruling, the dysfunctional state of the the Tripatite Negotiating Forum, corruption in companies and State enterprises and the disintegration of trade unions as the key sources of the problems of that afflict both the economy and labour.
Chitambo said workers were in the dark on their investments with NSSA as there was no information availed to them. She said workers were not engaged on how their money was used.
"We are worried about the fate of our investments with NSSA. As major shareholders we are virtually in the dark as we don't know how much is there, where it is invested and the criteria for investments. The information we have about our money is through the titbits we get from newspaper articles.
"I want to tell you Minister that our investments are insecure. We are concerned that our money is going down the drain through corruption," said Chitambo.
Chitambo also declared that TNF which brings together Government, Labour and management for dialogue was totally dead hence the myriad of problems stretching from unharmonised labour laws, a poorly performing economy and rampant corruption.
Chitambo called for urgent restoration of dialogue.
