Easter accidents in Masvingo drop as Traffic Safety intensifies campaigns

    – The rate of accidents in Masvingo for the busy Easter holidays has dropped from 11 last year to seven for the same period this year, thanks to intensified campaigns by the Zimbabwe Traffic Safety Council (ZTSC).
This is an impressive 36% reduction in accidents particularly when one considers that road carnage has become one of the biggest killers in the country.
Dhewa also said that there was only one person who was killed in the road accidents this year and this again is a drop compared to two persons who were killed in the same period in 2015.
ZTSC managing director Obadio Chinyere said traffic safety campaigns conducted by his organization played a critical role in the reduction of the number of accidents that were reported this year. He said there was a possibility that the accidents could have gone up because of the increasing number of cars on the country's roads but the accidents actually went down.
"We had a few accidents this Easter period because of the campaigns all road users should continue to excise caution as they did this Easter," said Chinyere.
Chinyere said officers from his organisation were on all of the country's roads giving information on safe travel and safe driving and they distributed key holders, stickers, caps and pamphlets in order to remind them to drive safely during the holiday.local news
