    ‘Drunkards’ kill Shurugwi neighbourhood watch member

    SHURUGWI
    – A member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee (NWC) was killed in Shurugwi last week after he attempted to arrest four suspected drunkards who were violent and causing commotion in public drinking places.
    The neighbourhood member who has only been identified as Constable Muzira was attacked together with a colleague identified as Constable Kajuzi.
    Two cousins Taboth and Thamsanqa Guduza Sibanda have so far been arrested over the case and they are being charged with murder while two other accomplices are on the run.
    It is the State case that on April 4, 2016 the four were at Masarurambi tuckshop in Shurugwi when they started causing commotion and assaulted people before leaving for Rumours bar about 200 metres from the tuck-shop.
    The late Muzira dressed in his Police uniform and accompanied by Constable Mujuzi followed the four to Rumours bar to effect an arrest for assault charges.
    Upon seeing the officers the four became violent and started assaulting the two officers. The officers were attacked with machetes, stones, booted feet and clenched fists.
    During the scuffle the deceased was stabbed once on the left side of the chest, he collapsed and died on the spot.
    The two accused were arrested the following day and brought to court.
    They were remanded in custody to April 22, 2016 by Magistrate Evia Matura. Betha Bore Prosecuted.local news
