    – Chiredzi residents have appealed to Chiredzi Rural District councillors to intervene and ensure council reduce the price for its Buffalo Range housing stands after it emerged that the stands are priced beyond residents` reach.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA)  Chairperson Jonathan Muusha Mupamombe said many residents applied for the stands but were shocked on the interview date when they learned that the prices were too high.
He said the conditions given by the Council are prohibitive as people without formal employment will not qualify. He also said as a rural district council they did not expect the prices to be higher than stands in urban centres hence his call for councillors or the Ministry responsible to intervene in the issue.
"In the low density one is required to pay a deposit of $5000. The price of $5,12 per square meter is actually higher than stands being sold by urban councils. High density stands are going for more than $4000. We appeal to responsible authorities and councillors to reconsider their prices so that everyone including vendors and touts can afford to have houses" said Muusha.
Chiredzi RDC chairman Edward Matsilele said his council is receiving various complaints over the pricing of the stands but there is no option since it is a new area and the cost of servicing is too high.
He said 1000 residents will benefit from the first phase of the new housing project targeted to benefit 4000 people eventually.  local news
