Secret meeting to unseat AFM president exposed

    MIRROR REPORTER

    MASVINGO
    – Some AFM pastors allegedly keen on putting their own man at the helm of the church are holding a meeting at Mushagashe outside Masvingo to push out the recently elected Bishop Aspher Madziyire.
The rebel pastors have dubbed their meeting, "the final push," according to authoritative sources.
However, coups are not provided for in the Church's constitution.
The meeting is billed to start at 8am today (March 3 2016) and a venue is said to have been booked.
The chief organiser is said to be a Pastor based in Masvingo who has been promised a senior post if he succeeds in pushing out Madziyire. The Mirror phoned several pastors and they gave varying responses.
Reverend Paul Mutsvene of Harare said he was aware of such machinations but was not the leader. He mentioned two pastors whom he said were the plotters against president Madziyire and asked The Mirror to call them.
"I am aware of such machinations but I don't know if the meeting is there tomorrow. I am not attending it and in fact, I am away attending a funeral," said Rev Mutsvene.
The Mirror also phoned Rev Mapingure who completely dissociated himself from the machinations. He said he would never be part of such a meeting.
"I don't entertain group meetings, that is not my approach. If I have issues with the presidium which I sometimes do I approach them on a personal level. I don't believe in these group things, we should be open," said Mapingure.
He said he was travelling but even if he was around, he was not going to be attending such a meeting.
The Mirror then phoned Rev Mudzinga who is said to be in Mucheke in Masvingo and on hearing that it was The Mirror calling cut the phone and then switched it off. Efforts to contact him again were futile as the phone remained switched off until the time of going to Press.
Efforts to get a comment from Rev Cardwell Mhaka were futile.
Rev Barnabas Rwodzi said he was not a leader of such a group  and will never be. He said he was not even happy to speak about it to the Presss.
He referred The Mirror to the church's secretary general who he said was the spokesperson of the church.local news
