    Bikita crowned NASH athletics champs

    –Bikita, the hosting district was crowned the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) provincial champions for the first time in seven years at the provincial competitions held at Rupare School in Bikita last week.
    Bikita scooped 35 gold, 26 silver 13 bronze medals to be crowned the provincial champions, a position that was held by Masvingo District for the past seven years.
    In the second position was Chivi with 22 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals. Masvingo District the perennial winner dropped to third position this year with 18 gold, 19 silver and  22 bronze; on number 4 was Gutu North with 12 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze, the fifth position went to Gutu South with 11 gold, 16 silver and 9 bronze.
    Zaka came 6th with 11 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze; at number seven was Chiredzi with 4 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze and anchoring the results on number eight was Mwenezi with 3 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze.
    Teechez furniture awarded all gold medalist with 20kg mealie meal and silver medalist were awarded with 10kg, they also provided all the refreshments on the day.
    Masvingo Provincial Education Director Zedius Chitiga congratulated Bikita for being crowned provincial champions and thanked Teechez furniture for their support in promoting education.
    "I would like to congratulate Bikita for winning this year's NASH athletics competitions, I enjoyed the spirited performance they displayed here today. If team masvingo has this kind of motivation we will definatly get the most medals,
    "I would also like to thank the Teechez furniture for sparing their time with us and the donations they made to the athletes.  We have food shortages in the province and the country at large, however the company has managed to give food to the athletes and support education," said Chitiga.
    Masvingo provincial NASH chairperson Cuthbert Chuma applauded this year's athletes for making the competitions more interesting than those of previous years.
    "There was better competition this year as compared to the previous years  and this made this year's competitions more interesting especially in the Under 20 boys category, " said Chuma.
    Ruramai Makoni of Rukovo High School Masvingo district was rated the athlete of the tournament after receiving 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
    Kundai Maguranyanga from Pamushana came second with five gold medals while Nyasha Vhudzi from Dzoro High School in Zaka District had four gold medals in the long distance events.
    Maguranyanga wrote his own piece of record for the province when he finished the 100m race in 9,9 seconds.sport news
