2 months on; Mahofa yet to report for duty

    Nkulumani Mlambo

MASVINGO – Masvingo Province is on autopilot with its Minister of State, Senator Shuvai Mahofa having been away from duty for two months now.
There is no official comment from her office with statements shifting from time to time. At one time the statement is that she is not well and the other, she is on leave.
Mahofa has not assumed duty since she left for the Zanu PF national conference on December 7, 2015 in Victoria Falls.
The Provincial Administrator Felix Chikovo confirmed that she was not at work but referred this reporter to the director in the Minister's office Kudakwashe Machako.
"She has not reported for work but the best person to talk to is her director," said Chikovo.
When contacted for a comment Machako said he was in Kariba for a workshop and is not sure whether she reported for duty or not.
The Zanu PF provincial chairman, Ezra Chadzamira confirmed that Sen Mahofa has not been attending party activities since the Victoria Falls conference.
A visit at her office also confirmed that she has not been reporting for duty since last year although the ladies at the reception refused to give information as they are not allowed to talk to the Press.
Last year there were reports that the minister was poisoned at the conference and hospitalised at a private clinic in Harare with some reports alleging that she contracted malaria at the conference. Since then she has not been seen in public.
One of her children who talked to this reporter on Wednesday confirmed that she was in Harare but did not say much.
Last week Machako had indicated that Sen Mahofa would start work on February 1 this week. news
