MASVINGO – A customer looking for a pair of overalls to buy got the shock of his life when he came face to face with a cobra measuring 1,5metres which had tucked itself among the clothes.
The shop had to be closed for three hours before the snake was killed.
The venomous reptile was first noticed by Priviledge Rambiwa when he was shuffling through work suits wanted by a customer, Joseph Mutemachani.
"I was shocked when I noticed a snake in the work suits, I then told the customer that I couldn't take the work suit because of the snake. The customer came close to where the snake was hiding and quickly tied its tail with string which he then tied to hanger rails so that it could not escape," said Rambiwa.
The incident caused commotion in the Central Business District as people thronged to the shop to see the reptile.
However, what baffled many people is how the snake got into the shop. Power Sales is in the heart of the CBD and many people wondered how the snake could have found its way into the CBD and crossed all the streets without being noticed.
The shop is at Tsungai Complex, a building owned by Masvingo North MP Edmund Mhere.
Tariro Gwerere and Hillary Matipano from Kyle Game Park killed the venomous snake together with the customer.
Power Sales Masvingo Branch manager Biology Katsaura thanked the rangers and told The Mirror that the incident affected their sales as they had to close the shop for almost three hours before the snake was killed.
"We lost about US$600 worth of business due to the disturbances which took place, I am surprised how the snake found its way in the shop," said Katsaura.
Some employees at the shop said the snake could have gained entry through the front door which has a gap at the bottom. news
